For the first time ever, I took
off in a plane, but did not land with that plane! With a lot of
peer pressure from Craig, Scott, and Mike, I decided to take the plunge
... literally. My Mother, Mary, also decided to join us.
Terri was on an important girls trip to the Bahamas and couldn't make
the jump with us, but maybe next time.
So we drove out to South Houston
to a place call Skydive Spaceland Houston. And after about an
hour of instruction, we were ready for our first tandem skydive.
In Texas, you can dive with a certified instructor with virtually any
instruction as they do all the work. But to make it more fun for
you, they give you basic lessons on how to jump out of the plane,
acrobatic turns, and most importantly, pulling the rip cord at 6,000
feet!
The most exhilarating part was
the initial jump out of the plane ... you get that tickling feeling in
your stomach like the amusement park drop rides. But it feels
quite natural after the initial 5-6 seconds freefall until you reach
terminal velocity and you don't have that falling feeling anymore.
After about a minute of
freefall, the chute opens and it takes 5-7 minutes of parachuting to a
soft landing. Check out the video below of my entire journey from
ground training to the landing.
